The Kidlat Kamao space pirate clan was formed in 2654 by survivors of the losing side of a civil war which raged on the planet Bagong Mundo, a planet populated mostly by colonists of Fillipino descent. These survivors fled into the fringes of the Empire and established a base on one of the unexplored worlds. At first attempting to start a new colony, they later turned to piracy to get desperately needed supplies without alerting their pursuers to their location. When the piracy proved to be much more profitable than the farming and colony building, they switched fully to becoming a pirate clan and called themselves the Kidlat Kamao (Lightning Fist) after the military unit that most of the colony’s senior members were formerly a part of.

The clan’s military discipline served them well, and by 2718 they had a fleet of 140 combat-capable ships and controlled a tight cluster of 14 worlds.
